Eyebrow transplant

In short

An eyebrow transplant rebuilds the brow with single-hair grafts taken from the back of your scalp, placed at the flat angle brow hair grows at. It takes 150–350 grafts per brow and two to four hours, and the result is permanent. Because the hair is scalp hair, it keeps growing – the brows need trimming every week or two, for life.

This is the most detailed work we do. A brow is small, it is looked at directly, and every hair in it is visible individually – there is no density to hide behind the way there is on a scalp. Almost all of the outcome is decided by graft selection and angle, not by how many grafts go in.

Transplanted brows need trimming for life

The part that gets left out

The grafts are scalp follicles. Scalp hair grows continuously; native eyebrow hair stops at a set length and sheds. Move one into the other's place and it behaves the way it always did – which means your new brows will keep growing and will need trimming every one to two weeks, permanently.

This is not a complication and it is not avoidable – it is simply what the procedure is, and it is worth weighing before you book. Everything else about the result – shape, density, permanence – is exactly what you would hope for.

Who it suits

  • Brows thinned permanently by years of over-plucking or threading
  • Scars, burns or trauma that have left a gap in the brow
  • Naturally sparse or absent brows, where the pattern has been stable for years
  • Asymmetry – rebuilding one brow to match the other
  • Active alopecia areata affecting the brows, which needs medical treatment and stability first
  • Anyone unwilling to trim the result every one to two weeks, for life

Where brow loss is caused by an active condition rather than by damage, the condition comes first. Transplanting into an unstable process wastes grafts and the donor supply that produced them – diagnosis comes first.

Eyebrow transplant questions

Do transplanted eyebrows need trimming?

Yes, for life, roughly every one to two weeks. The grafts come from your scalp, and scalp hair grows continuously rather than stopping at a set length the way native brow hair does. This is permanent and it is the single thing most worth understanding before you book – the result is excellent, but it is maintenance, not a fix-and-forget procedure.

How many grafts does an eyebrow transplant need?

Typically 150 to 350 per brow, depending on how much native hair remains and the shape being built. All of them are single-hair grafts: a brow is read hair by hair at conversational distance, so a two-hair graft anywhere in it is visible as a tuft.

Will it look natural?

It depends almost entirely on angle. Brow hairs lie nearly flat against the skin and change direction across the brow – upward and outward at the inner end, flattening along the arch, downward at the tail. Sites have to be made to follow that. A transplant that grows well at the wrong angle produces brows that stand away from the face and never settle.

Is it permanent?

Yes. The transplanted hairs shed between weeks two and four, then regrow from around month three and continue for life. Brows show their result slightly sooner than the scalp – most of it is there by nine months.

Can I still shape or tint them?

Once healing is complete, yes. Trimming is required. Tinting is fine and often helps, because scalp hair is usually a slightly different shade and texture from native brow hair. Plucking the transplanted hairs is possible but pointless – they will regrow.

What about the donor scars?

A few hundred single grafts are extracted from a wide area at the back of the scalp, leaving dot-sized marks that are not visible at ordinary hair length. The donor cost of an eyebrow procedure is small compared with a scalp transplant.
